Laynie's health update

It's been a long time since I have posted an update on Laynie's health! 

We went to Primary Children's earlier in December and had an appointment with audiology and the trach/vent clinic. They did some testing in the sound booth and Laynie did great and she always makes us laugh because her face is soooo expressive. You can tell the second she hears something by her facial expression. She had us all giggling. They changed a few things on her map but overall she is doing well. She still does not understand spoken language. She maybe understands 5-10 words. She thinks this was because she was implanted later and that area of the brain just closes down if it hasn't been stimulated by around 3 years old. We knew this was a problem and a possibility that she may never understand us speaking but it was still a little disappointing to hear!

At the trach/vent clinic she sees pulmonology and ENT. They put her on a new medication (a steroid inhaler) to hopefully help with her secretions and help with any irritation that is in her lungs. Also they said her ears had fluid in them and her ear drum was being sucked in on one side. She needs tubes again! We just took her tubes out at her last surgery this summer so that's a bummer but oh well. We are going to get the ear tubes put back in here in town at the end of January! She also needs a sleep study and needs to be changed to a different ventilator but both of those require an overnight stay, so we will hopefully do those together in the spring and stay 2 nights! 

She has been pretty healthy so far this year (only a few colds) but we still have a lot of sick season left. 

One really exciting thing is she has been granted a wish from Make-a-wish!!! We are so excited! We are going to Disney World in March:) I know a lot of people have wondered if she is really that bad off  or if she is dying! But they have changed how it works and make-a-wish used to be for a child's "last wish" and only for terminal children. Now it is for any child with a life-threatening condition and Laynie most definitely qualifies! Her pediatrician said she would be a great candidate so before we knew it we were planning her wish! I can't wait to see how excited my kids will be and I'm so incredibly grateful for the amazing charity that makes this possible for children like our Laynie bug!!!!!
